Let us build a house where love can dwell
and all can safely live,
a place where saints and children tell
how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
rock of faith and vault of grace;
here the love of Christ shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome,
all are welcome in this place.
- Marty Haugen
Streetsville United Church and its predecessor, Streetsville Methodist Church, has been here a long time—over two centuries! What has made our faith community able to endure and thrive these many years is that each generation has found a place in which to live and share and grow. We take pride in our buildings, where members and neighbours and guests can find safety and comfort amid dangers and grief. However, the church is people, not bricks, wood, and paint, and the people of Streetsville United celebrate life with music and art; share resources with people in need, both near and far; and stand up for justice for those experiencing oppression. Our hearts and our minds are open to novel ideas and new visions, even as we remember and honour the faithfulness of our spiritual ancestors.
As the first song in More Voices, one of our hymn-books, goes, all are welcome in this place. How will you join us in doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God (Micah 6:8)?
