Rev. John Retirement Gathering III

A parking lot gathering rev. John Tapscott’s pending retirement, that will adhere to current Public Health guidelines.

This email is going out to members & adherents of SUC to provide a few details about our proposed gathering on Saturday June 20th, with a Sunday June 21st “rain day”.  Rev John and Adelaide are not copied on this email because some of the content.  Rev John will still be working until the end of July (last Sunday Jul 26th), so there will be opportunities to speak with them before they leave, if you are unable to attend this gathering.  Their moving truck will be packing up the house in mid-August.

We are planning 3 groups to ensure adequate social-distancing.  The easiest is to do it alphabetically, so the plan is:

  • Last Name A to G             1:00-2:00
  • Last Name H to N             2:00-3:00
  • Last Name O to Z              3:00-4:00

Please park in every other parking spot to ensure adequate social-distancing.  This will allow Rev John, Adelaide and Julie to walk around and speak with people, but even with every other space, this means about 35-40 cars, so there will not be a lot of time to spend with each car.  Because of this, we are encouraging people to write a card or note to the Tapscotts telling them what their time at Streetsville has meant to you.  We will have a basket to collect the cards so that they can read them later at their convenience.  There will be no formal speeches or presentations as there will be no way for people spread across the whole parking lot to hear properly.  We will also try to have an article with photos in the July Tidings.

A number of you have also inquired about a gift.  Do not worry, this has been addressed.  The Tapscotts have been provided with a substantial financial gift by the Church to help in their retirement.  This was approved by Church Council early last fall and was covered out of a reserve fund.  However, we will also be presenting a quilt to John and Adelaide (and one to Julie) to remind them of their time at Streetsville. It was made by a number of the ladies of SUC.  We hope to have the quilt on display in the parking lot so that people can see it, but I have included a photo the quilt for John and Adelaide below.
