Reverend John Tapscott B.A., B.Ed.,M.Div.

Reverend John Tapscott B.A., B.Ed.,M.Div.

Reverend John was born and raised on a dairy farm in Southern Ontario. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Queen’s University in 1978, and worked in the insurance industry for six years before he heard and answered God’s call to ministry. A graduate from Emmanuel College with his M. Div. in 1987, he was ordained that same year. His ministry began in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he served for three years (and met and married his wife, Adelaide). He subsequently moved to Halifax where he served Edgewood United Church for 10 years.

He was called to Streetsville in 2000. His 25th year as a United Church of Canada minister was marked by a special celebration during a church service in October 2012. John has been a life-long member of the United Church; he was baptized, raised and confirmed in the church, and was involved in many aspects of church life before his ordination.

While in Cape Breton, John married Adelaide; they have one daughter, Julie, who is currently a dental receptionist in Toronto. He is proud to say that both are active Christians and involved in church life. His interests  include  reading (more than just theology!), music (especially collecting  and listening to jazz recordings), sports (mostly of the arm-chair variety these days), and spending his summer vacations in Cape Breton where Adelaide’s family home is located.

John’s message to those exploring a new faith journey:

Welcome to our Streetsville United Church website. My name is John Tapscott and I am the minister/pastor of Streetsville United Church. But I don’t do this work all alone! I’m assisted in ministry here by all the members of the congregation. We also believe that God has a guiding hand in all we are doing around here!

It is my joy as a pastor to invite people into a growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We incorporate both traditional and contemporary elements in our worship and congregational life. Streetsville United offers Christian growth and nurture for all ages through various programs and service opportunities. We have a very active Sunday School program for students from age three through the end of high school. There is also a nursery and toddler room for the wee ones.

Whether you are beginning your faith journey, or whether you are new to the community and seeking the fellowship of a worshiping Christian community, we invite you to look at what Streetsville United has to offer. I hope that our website will be helpful to you, but please be sure to email or call if there is any further information that you would find helpful.
